Stephen McAleavey is an associate professor of biomedical engineering. He earned the PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Rochester in 2002. From 2001 to 2004 he was a postdoctoral research associate in biomedical engineering at Duke University, where he contributed to the early development of ARFI imaging. In 2004 he joined the faculty of the biomedical engineering department at the University of Rochester. Here he has continued to develop advanced ultrasound imaging techniques, including Spatially Modulated Ultrasound Radiation Force (SMURF) imaging and single tracking location shear wave elastography imaging (STL-SWEI).
