For university service, he received the 2021 University Civitatis Award which recognizes "dedicated and meritorious service to the University above and beyond the regular expectations of teaching, research, and service". In Fall 2021, he convened with Prof. Pat Somers the UT Austin chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) to promote academic freedom and shared governance principles.
