Leighton Pate Barnes is a staff research scientist/engineer in the ECE department at CMU where he studies information theory, statistics, signal processing, and neuroscience. He received the dual B.S. in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering in 2013, and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 2015, all from MIT. He then received the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2021. He was awarded a best paper award from the IEEE Global Communications Conference in 2020 and has received awards for his teaching at both MIT and Stanford.
