About

I am Chair in Safety Science at the Centre for Assuring Autonomy, with a particular focus on safety assurance of systems involving artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. By background, I am a Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors specialist (C.ErgHF). I have worked across a number of safety-critical industries for over 25 years. I am a Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF), which is the professional membership body for Human Factors and Ergonomics in the UK. I chair the CIEHF special interest group on AI and Digital Health. I am co-author of 'Building Safer Healthcare Systems', which forms the basis for the national patient safety syllabus adopted by NHS England. I also support the delivery of the patient safety syllabus.
