About

We aim to understand how living systems function. Biological systems often manage to solve problems that stump us, and so we try to learn from biology how to improve our own design capabilities. We develop mathematical models and collaborate closely with experimentalists to explore the complex phenomena exhibited by living systems. These models take the form of pencil-and-paper theory, computational studies, and data-driven approaches. One of the joys of being theorists is that we get to ask questions at the many scales of biology, from individual molecules to communities of organisms.
